Hasbro Summer Learning Initiative

Hasbro Summer Learning Initiative is a six weeks summer program that is dedicated to improving students' math and literacy. During the six weeks, the program offers science investigations, art, theater, drumming, and cooking, allowing the kids to experience wide range of activities through learning. As part of the learning activity, they take an out-of-town field trip to destinations such as Mystic Seaport or Plimoth Plantation each Friday that produce academic gains.

I think the HSLI aligns with Purposeful Play because of the hands-on, field trips, and other activities they do to help the children learn better. As they learn through purposeful play, I think they also align with community. The children and students build a learning community that help each child to learn in a conducive environment which also give room for a positive youth space.

In other to be eligible, applicants must be able to

• advance the LIVE UNITED 2020 goals and results.[They] must be able to measure, collect, and report on key performance measures linked to one or both of the following UWRI-identified results: [1] Children are prepared for success in school, and [2] Young adults are prepared for college and careers. 

• apply social-emotional measurements identified by UWRI for the children they serve, and endeavor to implement strategies to improve outcomes.

• consider health and wellness factors/outcomes for the children they serve.

In other for a collaboration to be established, applicants must

• collaborate with a main partner to achieve shared goals.

• commit to assembling and convening a planning and implementation team that includes both school-day and community-based educators.

• show evidence of community and school support at all levels

• have a letter of determination of 501(c)[3] status from the IRS or have a fiscal agent that has 501(c)[3] status.

+ I like the fact that these teachers are able to see how their students have different ways of learning once the opportunity is there.

+ I like how the children have field trips each Friday.
