Based on what I read on New Urban Arts's website under "impact", they serve over 500 high school students each year, 25 emerging artists and over 3,000 visitors. The people NUA serves are young people.

Out of the 30 seniors that walk in the doors of NUA, they give support to the young people who planned on attending college by partnering with College Visions so that their seniors could receive help with their college application, essay-writing, and FAFSA. For the others who do not have intention on furthering their education by going to college, NUA mentors work with community partners to present the "Not-College Fair" (a showcase of post-graduation programs, such as AmeriCorps and YearUp) to support these group of students after graduation.

 02907 Demographics:
According to the American FactFinder, there are about 50.5%(14,155) of male and 49.5%(13,858) of female while NUA gender category shows 34% male, 5% other, and 61% female.

NUA's website shows 37% Hispanic/Latino, 27%  Multi-racial, 12% White/Caucasian, 18% African American, and 6% Asian/Asian American for their race and ethnicity. These statistic shows that NUA is dominated with Hispanics while remaining diverse. If I am to compare this statistic to 02907 zip code, I would say the White/Caucasian has the second highest population of 31.5% (8,825) while Black or African American is about 26.3% (7,361) of the population. Hispanic/Latino population is 59.0% (16,528) leaving us with the highest. Asian 5.5%, Multi-racial 3.3% (929).

Looking at the demographic, I cannot conclude much. But I would assume that this zip code is dominated by working class families. According to research, college graduate percentage is very low, while there are many high school graduates.

G U E S T S P E A K E R R E F L E C T I O N

My reflection is based on Karisa Tashjian, from the Providence Public Library. Karisa's presentation spoke out the most from my point of view. The way in which she presented her materials and educated the class not just what we know about libraries, but what goes on in the organizational structure that most of the class did not know about. I like how she made a connection to the fish after talking about partnering with other organizations. She mentioned that, partnering with others help bring in bigger ideas especially when everyone is leading in the same direction. The activity with the fish when everyone has to write down the names of fish they know helped me in understanding what she meant by working alone only lead to walking in circle whereas working with others. When there is a team opportunity and everyone is on the same page and has the same goal, there will be one focus and a better result. Play Box Activity (Culture & Ethnicity)

I believe culture and ethnicity cannot be learned once, because there is always something to learn even from our own cultures and/or ethnicity. I loved the activity because my teammate Maggie had me thinking more about my culture and what it means to me. It is something I do not often think about. By doing this play box, it helped me to cherish my culture even more. Planning this activity with Maggie was very educating and fun. The best part was listening to what others have to say concerning their culture/ethnicity. It made me to feel as if I am in a room fill with rainbow. Although we all have different cultures, but we somehow relate to at least one or two persons in the room. As for me, I felt satisfying when Tracy spoke of culture and the love she has for certain music and food in her country because I could relate and understand what she was speaking of.
